      Peace of Mind Gift Annuity

Known as "Mrs. Johnny," Margaret Allbritten still cherishes a small, 2 x 3, black-and-white photo of her husband, Johnny, kneeling on the grass, talking with one of the neighborhood children. The photo, taken decades ago, reflects the love and compassion he had for youngsters - some who even called him "dad" on more than one occasion. And while Johnny, as he preferred to be called, always had a soft spot in his heart for the younger children, Mrs. Allbritten prefers working with the older ones - those who can "sass me back," she says.

As an educator for 42 years, Mrs. Allbritten taught for a bit, but spent most of her time as a high school counselor, making a difference in so many lives that, years later, her former students still greet her with a smile, thanking her for all she's done for them.

"Junior high students are a precious age," Mrs. Allbritten says. "You have the opportunity to get their feet planted in the right direction."

Though she has no children of her own, her experience with students, combined with her husband's devotion to children, has led her to make a planned gift with Children's Home Society of Florida in the form of a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA). She hopes to help the children who are less fortunate, the ones who wake each day hoping to find happiness. Their innocence makes them so special, she says, and the world too often steals it away.

"God's creation is so beautiful," Mrs. Allbritten says. "The love of God shows through a small child; it's your responsibility to show it back. There are so many routes a child can take - it's our affect if they go left, right or in between."

With a CGA, Mrs. Allbritten is not only helping children and families in the community, but she also receives monetary payments herself - for the rest of her life. While she didn't need the resources she used to fund the CGA, she enjoys having the extra payments each quarter to add to the pension she currently receives.

Most importantly, though, she's helping the children who need it most. It breaks her heart to hear of the abuse and poverty of children, and she wants to do what she can to help turn their lives around, to show them that life's worth living.

"How do you get others involved? Be thankful that your children are being raised in a great home, but realize that others are not," she says. "All children deserve to have a feeling of security and to be loved."
